Size guide - Tablecloths
What size tablecloth fits my table? How far should a tablecloth hang over the edge? And does a square tablecloth work on a round table? This guide helps you find the right tablecloth size, whether you have a small kitchen table for four or a long dining table for the whole family.
How to choose the right size
Square or round table? A square 145×145 cm (57×57″) tablecloth works best – it falls like a soft, draped edge around a round table.
Rectangular or oblong table? Choose the length based on your table's length plus 40–60 cm (16–24″). The width is always 145 cm (57″) on Midnatt tablecloths, which fits most dining and kitchen tables (typically 85–100 cm / 33–39″ wide).
Midnatt tablecloth sizes
| Size | Table shape | Number of guests |
|---|---|---|
| 145×145 cm (57×57″) | Small square or round table | 2–4 people |
| 180×145 cm (71×57″) | Rectangular kitchen table | 4–6 people |
| 250×145 cm (98×57″) | Classic dining table | 6–8 people |
| 330×145 cm (130×57″) | Oblong dining table or farmhouse kitchen table | 8–10 people |

How to measure your table
- Measure your table's length and width – in the state you usually set it (with any extension leaf in, if you normally use it for dinners).
- Add at least 40–60 cm (16–24″) to the table's length for a generous drop at both ends.
- Allow 20–30 cm (8–12″) of drop per side – Midnatt tablecloths are all 145 cm (57″) wide, which covers most tables up to about 85–105 cm (33–41″) wide with a nice drop.
- Not sure? Choose a size up rather than down – a generous drop always looks elegant, while a tablecloth that's too small looks skimpy.
Frequently asked questions about tablecloth sizes
What size tablecloth fits a table for 6 people?
A dining table for 6 people is usually 180–220 cm (71–87″) long. Our 250×145 cm (98×57″) tablecloth fits best, with a generous drop at both ends. If the table is shorter (around 140–160 cm / 55–63″), 180×145 cm (71×57″) is enough.
Does a square tablecloth fit a round table?
Yes. Our 145×145 cm (57×57″) tablecloth fits both square and round tables up to about 100–110 cm (39–43″) in diameter or side length. The corners then fall as a soft, draped edge around the round table.
How far should a tablecloth hang over the table edge?
20–30 cm (8–12″) per side is the classic rule of thumb for an elegant drop. For a more everyday look, 15–20 cm (6–8″) is enough, while 25–30 cm (10–12″) gives a more formal, draped impression.
What do I do if my table has one or more extension leaves?
Measure the table in the state you usually set it. If you use the extension leaf for dinners, measure with the leaf in place and choose your tablecloth based on the longer measurement.
Is a 145 cm (57″) wide tablecloth wide enough for my table?
Yes, for the vast majority of dining and kitchen tables, which are typically between 85 and 100 cm (33–39″) wide. That gives you a drop of at least 20–25 cm (8–10″) on each side.
Which tablecloth is your bestseller?
The 250×145 cm (98×57″) is our best-selling size – it fits classic dining tables for 6–8 people and is a safe choice if you're unsure which one to pick.
