A guide to Gothenburg in summer
Published: 9 august, 2018
”It’s finally time to go west to the salty swims and magic seafood of the Swedish west coast and Gothenburg.”
Midnatt has grown a lot during this first year and when we come to think about it we have retailers in many of Sweden’s most beautiful summer spots. So we decided to ask some of these well selected stores about their own summer must do’s around their hoods.
It’s finally time to go west to the salty swims and magic seafood of the Swedish west coast and Gothenburg, home of Sweden’s biggest city music festival and friendly hipsters. To guide us we have the stylish duo of Joanna Bagge, owner of Kvart Interiör and Caroline Liif, from Cosa Home Stories, both retailers of Midnatt.

Cosa Home Stories, shop
A mix of the best design from new Swedish producers and, of course, Scandinavian icons. We just moved to a new bigger location and now offer both beds from Hästens and kitchens from Kitchen & Beyond – as well as a brand new interior design studio.
Brännö Varv, café and bar
Don’t miss the outdoor cinema at Brännö Varv. It’s definitely the cosiest way possible to watch a movie this summer, with the sea at your feet! They also have great concerts here during summer.
Champagnebaren Forssén Öberg, bar
I love Champagnebaren close to Magasinsgatan in Gothenburg. This place is a must for all of us who love both interior design and to enjoy life. Here you can sit on the cosiest of courtyards, enjoy snack food, stored cheeses and exciting varieties of Champagne.
Way Out West, music festival
Another must is to visit the Way Out West music festival in Slottsskogen. There in the COOP forum stand we will hang out with a flatbread in our hand and enjoy the fact that we have just finished styling both a stand and a restaurant inside the festival area. We love Way Out West and really hope that as many as possible can come this year!

Kvart interiör, web shop
Majornas design destination have moved entirely to the world wide web. Here you’ll find beautiful everyday items, lovely decoration items, perfect gifts and well-known design. The creatives behind the products are both local and small craftsmen and well-established international designers.
Have dinner at the newly opened restaurant Gården. They have a truly magical wine selection and serve small dishes with nordic flavours. Another big plus is that they play really great hip hop!
Drive out to Amundön and take a walk around the island among horses and cows. Take a dip in the ocean and have a nice picnic. You can buy food at Ica Kvantum in Hovås, they have a great deli – it’s probably Swedens – and the world’s – best Ica store!
Hagabadet, spa and bath
Hagabadet opened in 1887 and is situated in central Gothenburg. Go to the spa, take a yoga class and a swim in the beautiful jugend baths.
